Did my thesis advisor leave the country for the next full year with or without notifying me, at all, in any form of recognized communication?

That is a really horrid thing to do to a person if the advisor has actually done that. I also think that they should at least warn you if they are not going to be available to you. Oh ggrrr... I'm so sorry.
