Bouncing Round the Room*

The dogs are hyper as shit, bouncing off the walls, the furniture and me every time I get up to do something. You see, I forgot to go to the store and get their J-E-R-K-Y. They may not remember who was in the room five minutes ago, but they remember that every night at 8:30 p.m. they get their J-E-R-K-Y.

Buster is now doing his moan-back up-sit-stare-moan-back up-sit-stare routine to remind me that it is TIME FOR J-E-R-K-Y. Belle will not stop staring at me.

I just gave them a second T-R-E-A-T to try and satisfy them, but to no avail.

(Buster is on the left. It's too bad his GIANT BAT EARS aren't more visible here. Belle, on the right, is smarter than A., Buster and I combined. She is one tough cookie.)

(Homemade treats: 1 3/4 cups whole-wheat flour, 2 4.5-ounce jars of turkey baby food, just enough beef broth to make a stiff dough. Roll into little balls, smoosh with a fork and bake at 350 degrees for 18 to 20 minutes. For crunchy T-R-E-A-T-S, turn off the heat but keep the cookies in the oven overnight. In case you were interested!)

Along with fattening them up, I am busy with other preparations for the doggies' winter.

Check it out! I found a heated water dish so that their water won't freeze! (I really want this one, but we'll have to see if I can talk A. into it.)

But this is what I am really excited about: heating pads for the dog house!

This is so exciting, guys!

I really want to invest in these, but A. keeps teasing me. In all actuality, though, he's been scheming on how to fiddle with the dog house to make sure it keeps more heat in and more wind out. (The dogs stay outside during the day. They sleep inside with us. Buster usually cuddles with us on the bed all night, in fact. It's crowded, but he sure keeps us warm!)

I think, as these little pups get older, winter is going to get more and more difficult on them. I think I should definitely invest in these items. What do you think? Sensible investments or am I turning into one of those crazy people that treats their pets better than their neighbors?

*Any guesses as to who sings this song? It is one of my favorites!

  1. I am huge proponent of investing in quality dog comfort items. My dogs require an extreme level of comfort, and we actually did buy a king size bed just so they could be comfortable when sleeping with us (not kidding). I doubt you'll regret such a purchase.

Also, CUTE DOGS!!!! Is Bell a Border Collie?

  2. I think a heated pad sounds like a wonderful idea. I'd get one. I'm sure it'd be appreciated.

The dogs are so cute! They are cute and their ears are cute and they will probably eat you if you don't give them some jerky, stat! We unfortunately started giving Monk a treat after having a successful potty trip outside, and now every time he comes inside he goes and flops down in front of The Drawer and thrashes around impatiently, waiting for his treat. He gets very upset if we neglect it.

  3. I think it makes perfect sense to get things like heated pads for your dogs, especially when you live somewhere as cold as Wyoming. Also, your dogs are adorable and Buster's bat ears are definitely noticeable even in that photo.

  4. We are considering building a doghouse WITH A/C (Texas), so I feel your pian.

  5. Oh my gosh, you had me laughing out loud with the spelling out of the T-R-E-A-T-S!

  6. But you have to spell out certain words. We always spell out T-U-N-A and C-A-T-N-I-P. Otherwise their ears go up and they start circling our feet like sharks until one or the other appears. They're smarter than we think. They just don't have thumbs.

  7. PixelPi - exactly.

Flibberty - we are considering upgrading to a king-sized mattress ourselves, and Buster is a part of that consideration. You are not alone!

We think Belle is part Border Collie and part Husky. A. went to a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend's house and they had little puppy Belle chained in a corner without food or water and hit her when she whined. A. came home with her. So, her ancestry is a bit of a mystery to us, but we are so thankful she is a part of our family!

She is really, really smart, GORGEOUS, pulls on her leash like she is pulling a dog sled and is turning into quite a softie and a cuddlebug. A. has never seen her so happy as when she pulled a cut Christmas tree out of the mountains BY HERSELF. Crazy girl. I love her to the point of being absurd.

Black Sheeped - I would LOVE to see Monk throwing his little fit because he needs a T-R-E-A-T. Gigantic puppy flopping! With ears ALL OVER THE PLACE. I miss Monk. I miss you, too!

Jess - I think this is the only reasonable course of action, myself. I swear Buster picks up satellite feeds with his ears. I SWEAR.

Tessie - Oh, that is awesome! I think that is definitely the equivalent of heating pads in Wyoming! Oh, how our electric bills are going to reflect our love for these critters...

P & D - If we don't spell it out there is hell to pay. HELL TO PAY.

  8. Oohhh, Look at those eyes. I can't believe you didn't run right out and buy J-E-R-K-Y right away. Our sheltie is very good at the "eye" thing. Only she also lays her head right in your lap...so that you can't miss her. I thank you so much for your words of encouragement. It means more than you know.

  9. One of the upsides of being the worst puppy mama. Ever. is that Rowen has learned not to expect any sort of routine. I think she's just grateful that I pull my head out of my books long enough to give her food and water twice a day (most days . . . ).

I do have to spell p-a-r-k, c-a-r, and o-u-t, although she's starting to catch on to the last one.

  10. Of course, I'm reading everything in reverse order because I'm a slacker and haven't even seen a computer screen in, I think, weeks. Saw the picture of you, two blurry people and A.- so great to see you! You look as fantastic as usual. A. is definitely cute, and so are the dogs.

The answer to your question - Phish. I love that song, too. When I hear it, I am reminded of my old gang from WY (this includes you, of course), and I feel pangs of nostalgia mixed with happiness.
