Moose Meat, Turning Leaves and Snow

The kind of news that comes with Fall in these parts:

A. arrived home at 1:00 a.m. on Saturday (Sunday?) without a ram. Boo. It looks like it will be moose meat, and only moose meat, for the winter. Have I mentioned I am getting pretty tired of moose meat? (Pann, you have some powerful karma!)

He is in fantastic spirits, if not sore as hell from hiking 30 miles or so in two days. I'd be dead, let alone in good spirits.

As I descended the last hill into town during my morning commute, I noticed that nearly half of all the deciduous trees in town are already turning. The aspen in front of our house is starting to turn gold.

According to a local radio station, we are supposed to get snow tonight. Last night, it started snowing in my hometown while I was on the phone with my Papa Bear, and other towns across the state already have snow on the ground this morning.

What Fall news do you have today?

  1. Well, I'm going to ignore the part where you ask for Fall News since "fucking Texas" blah blah blah.

But, I love that you said "deciduous". I never hear that word anymore!

  2. The only fall news we have is that it is now cool here at night, but our apartment building has yet to turn on the heat, so instead we must sleep under huge piles of blankets and huddle together for warmth. Not really news, huh? The leaves don't turn in DC this early, as far as I can tell. So you should take pictures of your leaves and share them.

Also, snow? In September? Oh, my god. Also again, I'm not at all surprised that you're sick of moose meat--I've never had it, but I imagine it tastes similar to buffalo meat, which I have had. It's okay, but if I had to have it all the time, I'd get sick of it pretty damn fast.

  3. SNOW??? Agh!!!

Fall news: the leaves are just starting to turn here, which I hope will coincide precisely with our wedding day in two weeks.

  4. Man. I keep bitching to everyone (mostly J and the pets) that I wish it would hurry up and act like FALL already, and I bet that it is SNOWING in WYOMING already, COME ON. Sad. I do like cold weather, you know.

    Therefore: jealous!

I like when people here tell me that winters here are as bad as in Wyoming. I smile and nod.

    Kisses!

  5. Tessie - deciduous is a nice word, isn't it? It is even fun to say out loud. And I am so sorry, yes - Texas.

Jess - Lucky you! DC has a proper fall! I used to go to Teaism (by the Navy Memorial Metro stop) on Saturday mornings, have a warm cup of tea and wander over to the Smithsonian. Oh, such good memories!

P & D - Yah! A fall wedding with so many pretty oranges, yellows and reds. Oh, so gorgeous!

Black Sheeped - that is too funny that folks in the I-state compare their weather to Wyoming! I may be one of those locals that feels like we are extra special to survive these winters, (and I know that annoys you!) but damn - winters here are nine months long!

Pann - I didn't mention you so you'd feel guilty! :-) Hell, I was half on the side of the ram, myself! And you weren't the only commenter rooting for the big horn sheep!

The important thing (and why I really had candles lit) is that he came home safe and sound. Whew!

  6. I just moved back to the Midwest after a 3 year stint in Montana, and OH THE COLORS! Granted, it was 89 degrees here today, but we drove up to Wisconsin over the weekend and the colors are popping off! I forgot about how great the flat lands can be!

  7. Well, we have colors happening and leaves dropping, but we're still 2 weeks from peak color in our neck of the woods. And it was 91 degrees yesterday.

But we get thunderstorms today. I can't wait!
